In the Ingulsky district on Kosmonavtiv Street, a team of young people planted 20 Japanese pagoda trees, which are drought-resistant. This is the final stage of the eco-project ‘Green Belt of Mykolaiv’, which is being implemented by the NGO ‘Mykolaiv Crisis Media Centre’.
The project began in the summer with an educational component. A series of lectures was organised on climate change, the role of green spaces in cities, and how every resident can contribute to preserving the environment. Today, this knowledge is being transformed into concrete action.
“We are in the final stage of our project. We started with education, and now we are planting trees to replace the pseudo-acacias that grew here and were damaged by shelling in 2022. Sophora trees can withstand the heat, and we hope they will take root and create a cosy alley,” says project coordinator Daria Frych-Alchina.
Representatives of the NGO Youth of Ukraine joined the campaign, helping to plant trees, as did the municipal enterprise Mykolaiv Parks, which dug holes and organised water delivery for irrigation. Together, we are restoring not only green spaces, but also a sense of life and comfort in our city.
