Thanks to the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund project and the active participation of students from the KNUBA Mykolaiv Construction College, a unique location, the Arch Garden, has appeared in Mykolaiv.
This structure, made of metal pipes, will become a place for climbing plants that will provide shade and coolness in the summer heat. The plants were carefully selected for their resistance to the local climate. But the Arch Garden is not just a green corner!
The seasonal fog arch is an innovative element that will spray water on hot days, creating a refreshing area for residents.
Plants will be planted this spring, making the location even more cozy and green.
The idea for this project came from students of the College of Civil Engineering, and its implementation was made possible through cooperation with Mykolaiv designers and architects. The design was thoroughly tested for safety and reliability.
All work was done on a volunteer basis using available materials. Employees of the Mykolaivoblteploenergo utility company under the guidance of experienced specialists joined the installation.
The project has several important goals:
- Mitigating the effects of climate change;
- Providing young people with practical experience in working with materials and spatial planning;
- Formation of a new generation of architects and urban planners in Mykolaiv.
This initiative is part of nine sub-grant projects implemented by NGOs with the support of the Mykolaiv Development Agency and international partner Bloomberg Philanthropies.
We believe that the “Arch Garden” will become a place for relaxation and inspiration, uniting the community around a common goal – to make Mykolaiv more comfortable and greener.
Together we can change our city for the better!
