“A successful application starts with a clear understanding of the problem.” The second training session on project management and participation in international programs

March 30, 2026

The second training session, “From Partnership to Project: Participating in EU and Erasmus+ Programs,” focused on project management and engaging in international opportunities, is currently underway. Although the third day of the training is still ahead, we can already say with confidence: this meeting has become another step toward developing stronger, better-prepared, and more practically oriented individuals capable of working on projects.

The training is organized as part of the project “Establishment of a European Integration Office in the Mykolaiv Community,” implemented by the NGO “Center for Adult Learning and Education ‘Pivden’” in partnership with the Municipal Enterprise “Mykolaiv Development Agency” with the support of “U-LEAD with Europe.”

This time, we brought together representatives from the fields of education and sports. Many of the educators are no longer newcomers: some have participated in Erasmus+ mobility programs, gone on exchanges, and studied at European universities and schools. And now they have their own ideas that can be put into practice. That is why the focus of our work is on how to transform an idea into a structured application that is clear to the donor, logically structured, realistic in its implementation, and convincing in its content.

“We deliberately design our training sessions so that participants view the project not merely as an idea, but as a comprehensive system of solutions. What’s important is that a successful application doesn’t start with a form, but with a clear understanding of the problem, the logic of change, and feasibility. Working through these stages forms the foundation for high-quality applications for local and international competitions,” said trainer Oksana Petrenko.

It is worth noting that teamwork is also crucial when preparing applications, as a strong project is almost never the result of a single person’s efforts. It is always a process of coordination, shared vision, division of responsibilities, and meticulous attention to detail.

There is still a third day of work ahead, so participants will have the opportunity to build on what they have learned. We will also review EU programs, application forms, budget calculations, risk assessments, and all the practical details of submitting documents.

For reference. The “U-LEAD with Europe” program for Ukraine, which focuses on local empowerment, accountability, and development, is jointly funded by the EU and its member states—Germany, Denmark, France, Austria, Poland, and Slovenia—to support Ukraine on its path toward strengthening local self-government. U-LEAD promotes transparent, sustainable, and accountable multilevel governance in Ukraine that responds to citizens’ needs and empowers communities.
