A rich conversation about accessibility and equality in urban space

June 3, 2025

Today, on 3 June, a meeting of the working group on public safety and social cohesion was held at the Recovery and Development Office. In addition to Mykolaiv residents, the meeting was also attended by Natalia Krasnivska, Community Mobilisation Specialist at UNDP Ukraine, and Iryna Legka, Rule of Law and Access to Justice Analyst.

The main topic of the meeting was inclusive urbanism. The issues of creating a barrier-free and tolerant environment were raised.

They discussed how an inclusive approach affects:

  • business development,
  • the work of local governments,
  • the daily life of the community,
  • and the security situation in the city.

“Inclusive urbanism is not just about comfortable ramps. It’s about whether the city sees and hears every person, regardless of their age, health status, economic status or experience,” added Viktor Sikalenko, moderator of the meeting and director of the Mykolaiv Development Agency.

At the end of the meeting, the Youth Focal Points presented the preliminary results of the survey on the needs and challenges faced by the city’s youth today. If you have not yet had time to fill out the questionnaire, now is the time to do so — link.

Thank you to everyone who joined the discussion and developed new ideas for the development of our city
