As part of the Youth Climate Action Fund program, with the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies, a new modern square was planted in Ternivka on the street of the Land Forces of Ukraine, between Dachna and Polyova streets.
What was done?
- More than 400 trees, shrubs and ornamental grasses were planted, including oak, spirea, turf, tamarisk, barberry, conifers (pines, junipers), lavender, primrose, chaenomeles, etc.;
- architectural students of the Mykolaiv Civil Engineering College, together with local residents, developed a landscape design that provides aesthetic appeal at different times of the year and promotes biodiversity;
- benches and garbage cans will also be installed.
Who joined the project?
The project was implemented at the initiative of the municipal institution of the Mykolaiv City Council “Mykolaiv Development Agency”, students of the Mykolaiv Construction Vocational College, as well as the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning with the support of the municipal enterprise “Mykolaiv Parks”, which provided equipment for planting trees.
Project manager and youth policy development expert Dmytro Larchenko notes:
“This project not only beautifies our city, but also unites the community around a common goal. We are creating an environmentally sustainable space that will be comfortable for living, inspires young people and encourages residents to think about a responsible attitude towards the environment. This is a contribution to the future of Mykolaiv — ecological, modern, convenient for everyone.”

The project is part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund competition, which finances environmental youth initiatives. In addition to Ternivka, a number of measures are planned for landscaping and beautification of Mykolaiv — more on that soon.
This project is an example of how the joint efforts of youth, the community and partners can change our city for the better. Ternivka has received a green space that will become a recreation area and inspiration for its residents.
