Yesterday, a delegation from the international humanitarian organizations DanChurchAid (DCA) and Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) – partners through whom Mykolaiv has already received significant support ahead of the heating season – visited our Office of Recovery and Development. Specifically, the city received inverters and batteries for individual heating units: even when the power goes out, these units continue to operate nonstop for up to 15–20 hours, so the heat in Mykolaiv residents’ homes is less dependent on power outages.
Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych met with the guests. Also participating in the meeting were Deputy Mayor Serhiy Korenev, Director of the Mayor’s Office Olena Dmytrychenko, and Head of the Mykolaiv Development Agency Ihor Filippov. The partners were represented by DCA Secretary General Jonas Weisager Neddeker, Program Director Nils Roger, and Head of the DCA Representative Office in Ukraine Peter Bo Larsen.
The mayor briefed the partners on the security situation in the city: “Denmark has become a good friend and a reliable partner to us. We especially appreciate the support we are receiving during this most difficult time for Ukraine. I would like to thank the Danish people, the Danish government, and our partners for their support of Mykolaiv,” said Oleksandr Senkevych.
Together, they discussed the city’s urgent needs and promising areas for cooperation: the development of city hospitals, schools, and kindergartens in line with modern standards, as well as support for defenders returning from the front lines who need appropriate conditions for recovery and adaptation to civilian life.
We thank DanChurchAid and Norwegian Church Aid for their ongoing attention to Mykolaiv’s needs. We appreciate what we have right now and are working on what lies ahead.
