Mykolaiv is taking a big ‘green step’ forward! Our city has received $100,000 in funding from the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund to support youth-led climate initiatives.

As part of the project, a competition was announced, for which various organisations in our city submitted 26 projects. 18 environmental ideas won. They will be implemented as early as 2025.

“Mykolaiv is changing — and these changes begin with the initiatives of caring young people. Together, we are not just greening our city — we are shaping a new environmental culture. I am proud of everyone who has joined in. Thank you to our partners and young teams for their love for their hometown,” commented Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych.

One of the winning projects, Eco Mobile Park, is a small mobile park at a yacht club, says project manager Yevhenii. The plan is to purchase maple trees that will grow in mobile pots.

“Either the park will have fixed benches, but we will be able to move our trees. Or the benches will not be fixed. Then we will be able to move our park completely into the yacht club building in case of force majeure. Six benches and three rubbish bins,” he added.

Greening, educational campaigns, a dog park, a greenhouse at the zoo — all of this is changing the face of Mykolaiv and improving the quality of life for its residents. We will tell you more about the projects later. Together, we can influence the climate problem and build a cleaner and better city for future generations.

The project is being implemented by the Mykolaiv Development Agency as part of the global Youth Climate Action Fund project with the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies and United Cities and Local Governments.
