Daniel Bodu, representative of the Mykolaiv Development Agency and expert on energy efficiency, joined the educational project for schoolchildren in the region, ‘Energy of the Future,’ which took place on 30 and 31 October. The event was organised by the Mykolaiv Youth Policy Centre in partnership with the Mykolaiv Regional Office for Decarbonisation and Energy Efficiency.
Together with partners and students, they discussed how renewable energy is changing countries and communities, including Mykolaiv.
Over the course of two days, the schoolchildren:
- listened to lectures on solar energy and decarbonisation;
- took part in an interactive game about the country’s energy balance;
- visited an operational solar power plant in Mykolaiv;
- learned how renewable energy can be part of urban solutions.
The excursion to the Mykolaiv Ecological and Naturalistic Centre was the most emotional for the participants. This is an example of how the educational space can use real SES for learning.
“We all want Mykolaiv to be restored not as a “city from the past”, but as a modern space. But this does not happen by itself — someone has to do it. And, frankly speaking, we should start with young people who are seeing a solar power station in operation for the first time today. Years from now, they may be the ones building it,” says representative Daniel Bodu.
The event was attended by:
— Yegor Matveyev, project manager at Solar Service;
— Valentina Ishchenko, expert at the Decarbonisation Office;
— Maxim Kolesnikov, head of the Mykolaiv Youth Policy Centre NGO.

The energy transition is not a trend, but part of the reconstruction of Mykolaiv.
